Lendlease supports the Yarrabilba bike club!

TRACTION has received a community grant from Lendlease and the Yarrabilba Community Enterprise Foundation to continue to deliver the Community Bike Program at Family & Community Place in Yarrabilba. Our role is to welcome and train local volunteers who wish to support kids from the Yarrabilba community to develop skills and confidence in bike maintenance and riding.

The community grant of $10,395.00 will be invested in the building local capacity and  training local volunteers to strengthen and sustain the Yarrabilba Community Bike Program and create more awareness in the local community.

Together with Lend Lease and Yarrabilba Community Enterprise Foundation, Logan City Council has provided support for the establishment of the Yarrabilba Community Bike Program after the successful delivery of a series of 1-day Bicycle Build and Maintenance workshops by the TRACTION team in 2017 and 2018.

“Bike club” is a 2 hour, after school program designed to help local students understand how to fix and maintain their own bikes, as well as enjoy an afternoon socialising in an encouraging and safe environment.

Logan City Councillor Laurie Koranski said,

“I’m impressed with how well the students apply their abilities at TRACTION. It’s great to see this type of resource available in Yarrabilba which is another example of great innovations in the area and teaches practical skills through mentoring. The building of the bike is like a metaphor for actually going on a journey of growth and development.”

TRACTION aspires to deliver the program in accordance with the values of the Family and Community Place:

  • providing a welcoming place where children and families feel comfortable, accepted and appreciated
  • providing a community space, where cohesive relationships and togetherness will be nurtured and strong community relationships developed
  • offering fun and flexible health, educational and social activities which support the growth and development of children and families
  • providing a free service and space for children and families to engage with at will.

Dean Patterson, State Community Partnership Manager, Residential & Urban Regeneration for Lendlease, said

“The TRACTION team are clear leaders in the youth space, and deliver the bike building program with professionalism and care. I have no doubt an extension of the program would be highly valued and contribute significant benefit to the Yarrabilba community.”

We would like to thank Lendlease and Yarrabilba Community Enterprise Foundation for their support in continuing our venture in Yarrabilba and look forward to seeing TRACTION grow in the area.
