Heartfelt thanks to attendees of the 2019 Long Lunch
TRACTION was fortunate to be selected as the 2019 beneficiary charity of Food For Thought Brisbane’s annual “Long Lunch” held on Friday 13th September at The Calile Hotel.
Founded to foster a community that shares a love of great food, in the company of friends whilst supporting a local cause, this year’s event was the largest so far with over 300 attendees providing their support.
Food For Thought Brisbane’s supporters are the heart and soul of the Long Lunch and together they raised over $47,000 which will go directly into delivery of TRACTION programs and supporting more young people in need.
Elke van den Heuvel of the Bayside Child Safety Centre shared her experience supporting vulnerable children, highlighting the extent of challenges young people are facing in our community and the benefits that programs such as TRACTION provide for at risk kids.
TRACTION program participants Harry and Laila grasped the opportunity to speak at the event, sharing their experience at TRACTION. James, the Success Coach from their school highlighted the benefits that TRACTION delivers for young people and recognised Harry and Laila for their achievements.
Monique, a placement student at TRACTION who is undertaking a Certificate III in Community & Support Services, delivered the Acknowledgement of Country, and with TRACTION Mentor Jo, shared some of the benefits she derives personally from TRACTION and described her role at TRACTION supporting the students.
Heartfelt thanks from the TRACTION team to everyone who supported the event, including those who attended and purchased raffle tickets and bid on auction items, the event sponsors, and most importantly the dynamic due behind Food For Thought Brisbane, who in cultivating the Long Lunch community, make a significant difference in our community.
Special thanks also to Sofie Formica for her professionalism as event MC and for her long-standing support of TRACTION, and to Maria Patorniti-Giliberti for securing a magnificent array of raffle items and auction prizes.
