TRACTION Awarded a Youth Empowerment Program Grant to Strengthen Community in Ipswich and Toowoomba

We are thrilled to announce that TRACTION has been awarded a grant through the Youth Empowerment Program to expand our evidenced-based programs in Ipswich and Toowoomba. This commitment from the Albanese Government allows us to address the growing concern of thousands of young people disengaging from education, and disengaging earlier.

At TRACTION, we believe in the power of possibility for every young person. I am thrilled to announce that this grant marks a milestone achievement as an organisation. The results young people are realising through their TRACTION experience and our impact data shows that what we are doing is working. It’s transformative, and we look forward to now being able to expand this impact to new schools and communities as a result of this grant.

The Need for Ongoing Funding and Corporate Support

While this grant marks a significant milestone, it is just the beginning of a larger effort to bring lasting change to Ipswich and Toowoomba. As we work to scale our programs, we recognise the importance of securing further grants, continuing to forge corporate partnerships, and working closely with communities to ensure that the impact of our work continues well beyond the pilot phase.

Expanding the TRACTION Model to New Communities

Since our founding, TRACTION has successfully delivered programs in Brisbane, the Redlands, Logan, Scenic Rim and surrounding areas using a unique, evidence-based approach focused on early intervention and school re-engagement. We are excited to bring this model to Ipswich and Toowoomba, tailoring our programs to meet the specific needs of each community.

We’re committed to ensuring that this expansion is driven by local leadership and deeply integrated into the fabric of each community. By establishing workshop hubs in both Ipswich and Toowoomba, we will provide dedicated spaces for young people to access support where they live and learn, ensuring a direct and lasting impact on their futures.

Core Programs in Ipswich and Toowoomba

The first program we’ll launch in these new communities is ‘BUILD’, TRACTION’s flagship initiative. Designed for 12-15-year-olds, Build helps young people gain technical skills by rebuilding custom bikes while learning teamwork, leadership, goal-setting, and self-regulation. This hands-on program empowers participants to imagine and build their own future.

In addition, we will introduce ‘RIDE’ and ‘CONNECT’ programs starting in Term 3, 2026. The Ride program helps younger students transitioning into high school by developing emotional regulation, school attendance, and other key skills for success. The Connect program focuses on career pathways for Year 10 students and above, providing opportunities for work experience and valuable employment skills.

Looking Ahead

This is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for TRACTION. We are incredibly grateful to the Attorney General for their support, and we look forward to working closely with local communities, schools, and organisations to create a lasting, positive impact on young people in Ipswich and Toowoomba.

As we move forward, we remain committed to securing the ongoing funding and corporate partnerships that will allow us to continue expanding and sustaining our reach. Together, we can empower the next generation, creating stronger, more connected communities across Queensland.

Stay tuned for updates as we begin delivering these transformative programs in Ipswich and Toowoomba. Because when a young person gains skills and confidence with hope for their future, it ripples outward—to their families, their schools, and their entire communities.
