Youth mentoring programs in SE Queensland
Programs
Sparking young people’s potential through hands-on learning and mentoring
TRACTION delivers evidence-informed, hands-on learning and mentoring programs to help young people aged 10-17 engage in education and build the resilience and skills they need to thrive.
We partner with schools and referral agencies across South East Queensland, including Toowoomba, to help young people learn on the tools in our workshops, guided by our team of trained mentors.
Participants complete projects such as building their own bike, learning bike-riding skills, or doing practical work experience – all within a carefully designed mentorship and learning curriculum.
TRACTION programs are primarily run onsite at schools (sometimes in community hubs) across South East Queensland, including Toowoomba. Group sizes are typically 6 to 8 or 10 to 12 young people per program.
Our specialists can also design bespoke, tailored youth programs.
Building Deadly. Riding Deadly.
TRACTION’s culturally safe and inclusive Bike Build program, co-designed with Gunya Meta under the guidance of Aunty Faith Green. The program empowers First Nations young people to connect with culture and community while building confidence, resilience, and practical skills through the experience of building and customising their own bike.
Our evidence-based approach
Our programs focus on building strengths, resilience and practical skills to help young people navigate life’s hurdles.
They’re grounded in proven approaches, including:
Youth-centred and strengths-based learning – meeting young people where they are.
Trauma-informed support – recognising past experiences and creating safe spaces.
Social learning and self-determination – fostering confidence, responsibility and growth.
Systems perspective – addressing the bigger social and structural challenges that affect young people’s futures.
